How To Get Started Guide
Arranging your Surgical Trip is easy!
Follow these steps:
• Complete our online-web form and a Surgical Trip representative will get back to you within 24 hours.
• You may also call us toll Free at 1-888-896-3996 and speak to our Surgical Trip Support team.
Responding to your Request
Based on your requested procedure, your Surgical Trip Coordinator will send you:
• A typical price range for your requested procedure (along with a comparison of the price you might pay in the U.S.)
• Important facts about your requested medical procedure
• Information and credentials of the recommended overseas hospitals and physicians
• Typical length of stay for your procedure
• A medical questionnaire for you to fill out and return
• Destination information for the country you specify
Send us your Medical Information
After receiving your medical questionnaire, we will review it and call you if we have any questions or need clarifications. Then, we will pass your medical information on to one or more of the hospitals (and associated physicians) in our network in order to put together a precise price quote. During this time we may request diagnostic tests such as CT scans, EKG reports and blood tests, or arrange a conference call between you and your chosen physician. You should also use this time to consider the destination and hospital that bests suits your needs. (Check to make sure you have a current passport and Visa.) *Medical information will be processed according to HIPAA guidelines.
Confirming your Medical Procedure
Once a decision to travel abroad for surgery has been made, you will then need to choose a date for your procedure. At this point your Surgical Trip Coordinator will arrange your medical appointments and schedule the surgery. Your Surgical Trip Coordinator will also assist with travel logistics such as:
• Applying for your passport/Visa
• Making your travel and airline arrangments
• Arranging lodging and transportation
Payment for your medical procedure will be processed directly with the overseas hospital. Please note that most hospitals require an advance deposit. Travel and lodging will be coordinated through Surgical Trip.
Arrange for your follow-up, post-operative care before you travel
It is extremely important that you schedule a follow-up appointment with your primary physician before departing for your Surgical Trip. Ask if he or she will provide post-operative care when you return (please inform your Surgical Trip representative once the date is confirmed). Surgical Trip can coordinate nursing care and rehabilitation therapy in many parts of the U.S.; however, nothing can substitute for the care provided by your primary doctor. If required, we will be happy to coordinate a conference call between your primary caregiver and your overseas doctor. Once all is confirmed, your Surgical Trip Itinerary Package will be sent to you by E-mail or fax. It will include:
• Name of the overseas physician and his/her profile
• Hospital specific information
• Date of the surgery
• Airport pick-up information
• Hotel confirmation (if applicable)
• Information about the pre-operative tests required
• Flight information
• Number of nights in the hospital (if applicable)
• Medical recommendations provided by the physician (medications to avoid, vitamins to take, etc…)
• Country-specific information including tours and sightseeing options
• Emergency contact numbers
• Suggested packing list
During your Surgical Trip
The hospitals in our network are accredited by Joint Commission International (or in the process of accreditation) and offer first-class facilities and a level of personalized care rarely seen in the U.S. During your trip you will have 24/7 access to a local hospital representative as well as your Surgical Trip Coordinator.
Aftercare
After your surgical procedure, you will most likely recover in a hotel or recovery facility. A follow-up appointment is scheduled with the overseas doctor before your departure. The overseas doctor will provide you with a list of recommendations that you should follow in order to maximize the success of your surgery and recuperation.
After your return home, your Surgical Trip Coordinator will be in contact with you to monitor your recovery. Surgical Trip can also arrange aftercare in some U.S. locations (contact a representative for details). When necessary, your Surgical Trip Coordinator can arrange contact with your overseas physician.
We look forward to assisting you with your Surgical Trip!
